News Room » Women in Solar
When Latrice Gratton walks into a room, she projects a sense of earthy confidence, good humor, and comfort with herself and others. This Richmond native, age 39, with a background in the trades, was out of work for a long stretch when she heard about our solar class for women. Ms. Gratton enrolled because she wanted to see what solar was all about.
"I really like the electrical side of it. But I can do the installation side of it as well. I am out searching every avenue as far as solar is concerned," she says. "I was up there on the roof two whole days. It was exciting."
To help open up what has been a traditionally male-dominated field, Solar Richmond recently offered a small women-only training for local women in our community.

"Solar Richmond is a good place where you can come learn the new things that are going on in the construction trades," says Ms. Gratton. “‘Green' is for go. And Solar Richmond is good to go!"
The Solar Richmond women’s training was made possible by a grant from the Ms. Foundation for Women.
