News Room » Staffing Agency Will Beat 2011 Goals

“Both experiences helped me build confidence,” Chris Abercrombie, a 24-year-old Solar Richmond graduate said of his participation in the organization’s internship program and staffing agency. Chris, who recently landed a permanent job at One Sun, a Graton, CA based solar integrator, said his experiences with Solar Richmond gave him exposure to different companies, which allowed him to network and practice his trade.

“All of the repetition on commercial-scale solar projects in the East Bay and communicating with different types of people helped me grow,” he said.

Chris is one of 23 Solar Richmond Staffing Services clients who together received approximately 83 temporary and 12 permanent placements at 11 solar companies from January-November 2011. Placing 28 participants in 84 temporary positions and supporting eight secure full-time jobs has been Solar Richmond’s 2011 placement goal. Since 2009, the staffing agency has more than doubled its number of solar industry contractors and clients placed in jobs while it continuously seeks to create a responsive service.

“What’s helpful is that you’re able to hire entry-level workers with a broad range of skills,” said Director of Operations for Sky Power Solar, Nathan Collins, who recently hired three staffing services clients for permanent positions. “And you know you’ll get someone you don’t have to train starting from day one,” he said.
