News Room » Solar Richmond Promotes City's Clean Energy Program
The City of Richmond is offering an exciting new solar rebate and promoting an energy efficiency program that will result in hundreds of dollars of annual savings for Richmond homeowners. Through the Richmond Recovery Solar Rebate (R3) program and Energy Upgrade California, residents can save money off their energy bills while helping the environment.
The initiative consists of two steps: signing up to receive up to $9,000 in energy efficiency upgrade rebates; and applying for the R3 program that includes the Any Income solar rebate and free solar installations for qualifying lower income homeowners - with additional 3% fixed interest rate financing available through the state.
To promote R3 and Energy Upgrade California, the City of Richmond’s Environmental Initiatives Division is teaming up with Solar Richmond to conduct community outreach throughout the city. Solar Richmond’s Solar & Energy Upgrade Advocates will be presenting at upcoming neighborhood council meetings, canvassing in the community, and tabling at local events.
In Richmond, sustainability leaders hope to increase the number of residential solar installations and energy efficiency upgrades while supporting local business development and creating green-job opportunities. The rebate is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with typical installations generating a $3,000-$7,000 rebate depending on the system size. Income and qualification criteria can be found here. The R3 program is expected to generate over $2 million of work for Richmond contractors and will install solar on over 100 Richmond homes, advancing the city’s energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
