News Room » Solar Richmond Set To Launch Commercial Solar Program for Co-op
Solar Richmond is poised to launch its first commercial solar training program to recruit for its new clean energy cooperative and offer advanced training to local installers.
“This is one of the first steps in establishing our solar and energy efficiency cooperative while we create new training opportunities in the community,” said Solar Richmond Executive Director Michele McGeoy.
Michele explained that the course, which was made possible by a generous grant from Chevron, offers an opportunity and a path for local installers. Graduates of the program will be eligible for positions with Solar Richmond’s inclusive business and for temporary jobs through Solar Richmond Staffing Services.

A Solar Richmond graduate hones his skills.
“The program is going to take our current residential training to the next level by teaching students content they will need when working on larger more complex commercial systems. Commercial projects are a significant source of solar jobs – both in the industry and in the future for the co-op,” said Mike Strykowski, Solar Richmond’s solar trainer and consultant.
Outreach will begin for Fundamentals in Commercial Solar Installation in December 2011 with a focus on West Contra Costa County and in particular, Richmond. The two-month program will include evening and weekend sessions for approximately 20 students who will study advanced topics in commercial solar installation.
