Our Services » Solar Richmond Staffing Services
Solar Richmond’s nonprofit staffing service makes it easy for solar companies to hire top graduates who are committed to building vocational careers in the solar industry. When temporary installers are needed on the roof, we take care of workers’ compensation, insurance and payroll taxes.
Solar customers benefit by getting the best labor on their installations. Employers benefit from using temporary workers who are committed to the trades and want to join your installation team permanently. This positively impacts the installer turnover rate, reducing HR costs at companies accustomed to hiring employees who leverage installation jobs to begin careers in sales. An additional benefit of our low-risk hiring model is fewer hours in the office dealing with employee paperwork so you can rest assured knowing Solar Richmond's staffing agency manages HR for its temporary installers.
"The Solar Richmond graduates working for Sun Light & Power are hard-working installers who came to us with a 'Can Do' Attitude from day one." Gary Gerber, President & CEO of Sun Light & Power

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I obligated to hire the staff after they have worked a certain period of time?
No. There is no obligation to permanently hire Solar Richmond graduates. However, we expect you to strongly consider graduates who meet and exceed your performance expectations.
Is there a percentage of SR graduates that you expect to staff on the jobs you refer to solar contractors?
We work with employers to arrive at the right allocation of Solar Richmond graduates on any particular job. For commercial-scale installations, we recommend two graduates per five-person crew.
Is there a fee to bring SR graduates on permanently?
No, unlike other agencies, we encourage you to bring candidates on permanently at any time without paying fees to Solar Richmond.
What if the person placed with us does not work out?
You can terminate the agreement at any time. As an organization founded to develop a green-collar workforce and promote solar adoption, Solar Richmond seeks to address any HR issues immediately. In the event of termination, we ask that employers agree to a meeting or phone consult with a Solar Richmond staff member so issues can be promptly addressed.
Who handles the payroll, insurance and workers’ compensation?
